چکیده

Computer vision has been an active research area for the past few decades. It is being used in many fields of industries for example digit recognition and handwriting recognition in banks, industrial parts recognition etc. Shape matching is an important sub-domain of Computer Vision, and relies on effective shape representation techniques. These techniques must be developed in order to effectively estimate similarity between the shapes. Major similarity estimation results correspond to effective shape matching techniques. These shape matching techniques or shape descriptors must be invariant to variances or noise in the shape for accurate shape matching results. But, unfortunately, these descriptors are not invariant to noise like small cracks or slits present in the contour of the image. These cracks changes the shape boundary which changes the shape altogether. In this paper, we propose a noise removal approach that significantly improves the performance of sophisticated shape matching techniques. Existing shape matching techniques focus on complex algorithms without giving much consideration to the noise removing preprocessing techniques. These preprocessing techniques can reasonably improve the accuracy where the shapes are affected by cracks. We present a preprocessing approach to identify and remove small cracks and slits in the shape contour. It has been observed that these cracks or slits introduce changes in a manner which makes classification of shapes difficult. This technique is simple and effective and may be used to preprocess the images before applying sophisticated shape representation techniques to improve their accuracies. The effectiveness of proposed pre-processing approach is verified using publicly available shape datasets.

New Pseudo-CT Generation Approach from Magnetic Resonance Imaging using a Local Texture Descriptor

Background: One of the challenges of PET/MRI combined systems is to derive an attenuation map to correct the PET image. For that, the pseudo-CT image could be used to correct the attenuation. Until now, most existing scientific researches construct this pseudo-CT image using the registration techniques. However, these techniques suffer from the local minima of the non-rigid deformation energy f...

A weighted metric method to optimize multi-response robust problems

In a robust parameter design (RPD) problem, the experimenter is interested to determine the values of con-trol factors such that responses will be robust or insensitive to variability of the noise factors. Response sur-face methodology (RSM) is one of the effective methods that can be employed for this purpose. Since quality of products or processes is usually evaluated through several quality ...

A Robust Feedforward Active Noise Control System with a Variable Step-Size FxLMS Algorithm: Designing a New Online Secondary Path Modelling Method

Several approaches have been introduced in literature for active noise control (ANC)systems. Since Filtered-x-Least Mean Square (FxLMS) algorithm appears to be the best choice as acontroller filter. Researchers tend to improve performance of ANC systems by enhancing andmodifying this algorithm. This paper proposes a new version of FxLMS algorithm. In many ANCapplications an online secondary pat...

A Robust Strucutural Fingerprint Restoration

Fast and accurate ridge detection in fingerprints is essential to each AFIS (Automatic Fingerprint Identification System). Smudged furrows and cut ridges in the image of a finger print are major problems in any AFIS. This paper investigates a new online ridge detection method that reduces the complexity and costs associated with the fingerprint identification procedure. The noise in fingerprint...

Robust Identification of Smart Foam Using Set Mem-bership Estimation in A Model Error Modeling Frame-work

The aim of this paper is robust identification of smart foam, as an electroacoustic transducer, considering unmodeled dynamics due to nonlinearities in behaviour at low frequencies and measurement noise at high frequencies as existent uncertainties. Set membership estimation combined with model error modelling technique is used where the approach is based on worst case scenario with unknown but...
